Senator Joe Manchin pledges to block major progressive legislative targets if the Democrats retake the Senate.
Speaking to Fox News’ “Special Report” on Monday, Manchin (D-WV) made the promise as he spoke about the future of the House of Lords of Congress and how the 100-member panel faced a split between Democrats and Republicans .
If Democrats win their two Senate runoff races in Georgia in January, Senate bills could be postponed with a single vote.
50-50 [control] That means if a senator doesn’t vote on the Democratic side, there will be no tie and no bill, ”said the West Virginia Democrat.
“I make a commitment to tonight, and I make a commitment to all of your viewers and everyone else who watches. I want to dispel these fears. I want to rest those fears for you now because if they talk about packing the dishes or ending up being a filibuster, I won’t be voting for it, ”he continued.
Manchin, a moderate Senate vote, added that while he did not know if there would be any significant Democratic support for defusing the police or other progressive issues, he believed Republicans were ready to come to the table to address Obamacare issues.
“I’m a proud moderate Conservative Democrat. Maybe there aren’t many of us left, but I can tell you what this country wants is moderation,” he said.
“Whatever the message, it was wrong for so many people to be divided,” he continued, adding that the Democratic news terrified “the Bejeezus out of the people.”
The Red State Democrat added that the “Green New Deal” and “all this socialism” “is not who we are as a democratic party”.
“We got tagged if you have a D with your name you have to be for all the crazy stuff and I don’t,” he remarked.
