Bill Mahers penultimate Real time before the holidays a wallop packed.
Maher first attempted a civilian conversation with Jenna Ellis, a senior legal advisor for the Trump 2020 campaign.
He thanked Ellis for being brave enough to be on the show. Then he tried to allow her to present her case.
Ellis went through a list of exposed election fraud allegations that Maher tried to verify before resorting to: “Just stop. Just stop.”
But the host was more critical of Democrats, who, Maher seemed to be saying, were finding ways to pull defeat from the jaws of victory.
In his monologue “New Rules”, Maher stated that the Democrats could not turn the Senate around. That they failed to turn the state legislature around. You lost seats in the house. All of the Democrats’ speeches on systemic racism have had their share of minority votes falling.
The message to Democrats from so many parts of the country seems to be, “We don’t like Trump, but we still can’t bring ourselves to vote for you.”
“Liberals can either write off half the country as unredeemable,” Maher said, “or they can ask,” What about a “D” next to a candidate’s name that makes it so toxic? “
He quoted Pennsylvania Democrat Conor Lamb as saying the party’s rhetoric must be recalled. It has to be rooted in common sense. “
“In my opinion, that’s the core of the problem,” said Maher. “Democrats too often lack common sense for a large swath of Americans. Democrats are the party of any over-sensitive social justice warrior who made a stupid story on the news.”
Maher has ticked off quite a few headlines, including the one this week where Anne Hathaway apologizes for playing a three-fingered witch in her new movie, and that might offend some.
“Who are these jellyfish?” he asked.
“I can do this all day,” he continued. “Cite stories big and small that are endlessly on people’s newsfeeds and lead to a constant drop, drop, drop of ‘These people are crazy’.”
“People vote on that,” said Maher. “Not politics.”
Democrats kept saying in the campaign, “You may not believe that Trump is preferable to what we sell,” and many voters keep saying, “Yes. We. Can. In fact, our main purpose is for him to agree to build a bulwark against you. Because your side believes that silence is not violence and pillage. “
