Utah and Washington will play in Seattle on Saturday, the Pac-12 announced on Tuesday.
The game came together just hours after Utah’s game against Arizona State was canceled and left both the Utes and Huskies unopposed this week. Washington’s Apple Cup rivalry game against Washington State was canceled on Sunday.
“The planning of this game is in line with the conference’s commitment to providing athletes with opportunities through maximum planning flexibility while prioritizing health and safety,” said a statement from Pac-12.
When the Pac-12 announced that it would allow non-conference play, it included a provision that a non-conference matchup should be abandoned if a Pac-12 team were to be available by Thursday of a certain week to prioritize a conference game. This rule would have prevented a BYU-Washington game from happening if the schools’ discussions in the first week had resulted in an agreement on the game.
The game starts at 10:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
