When you gasp one moment in what is called a documentary and at the edge of your seat the next, you know that this is extraordinary. Alexander Nanau’s collective from Romania is one such film. The title comes from the name of a nightclub that caught fire one night in Bucharest and killed many people because there was only one exit. Worse still, many burn victims who may have been rescued later perished due to bureaucratic problems in the country’s hospital network. Filmmaker Nanau follows a fearless investigative journalist whose determination makes the Romanian government liable for its sins.
