Hello Hello hello! Since you’re probably chilling on the sofa and digesting your Thanksgiving holiday, we’ve got content from the queens to keep you company while you unwind in this issue of The week in drag.
The gifts are already rolling in, with digital Christmas parties with your favorite queens, a wonderful musical collaboration between Nina West and a Disney animator and the latest from a Drag Race UK Sensation. Grab some leftovers and report to the queens.
Do you have the charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to become America’s next drag superstar? When you’re ready to hit the runway, RuPuals Drag Race want you. The casting for the 14th season of the show has started. So, submit your video and start your engines.
Christmas may be celebrated a little differently this year, but the queens have a special gift for you. Instead of the usual holiday tour, 10 legendary queens are creating a seasonal mood with the Drag Queen Christmas VOD event, a virtual adaptation of Murray & Peter Presents’ annual nationwide tour.
This year Sasha Velor, Shea Couleé, Jaida Essence Hall, Brooke Lynn Hytes, Thorgy Thor, Jackie Cox, the industrial icon Lady Bunny and Dragula Winner Landon Cider will be part of the celebrations with appearances, while Trinity The Tuck and Nina West will direct production. Drag Queen Christmas is now streamed on DragFans.com on demand.
Speaking of Lady BunnyShe released a new song to commemorate the holidays as well as the virus that will keep us safe at home this season: “Santa’s Spreadin ‘COVID Around”. This festive and fun tune is just one of many insane holiday favorites from their upcoming show “What Child Is This?” Which begins streaming on December 4th. Tickets for this spectacular must-see are available from Voss Events.
Nina West is a huge Disney fan and luckily has teamed up with animator Dan Lund (whose many credits include) Frozen, Frozen 2 and The Lion King) to create a magical musical short film entitled “Quarantine Dream”. Nina and Dan, who previously worked together on the moving short film “Coaster”, are the perfect blend of Dan’s 30 years of animation experience and Nina’s passion for the performing arts and musicals, paired with an original song by Mark Byers, West, Lund, and Patricia Taylor.
The video was shot entirely from home during the second week of isolation in March 2020. Nina in Columbus, Ohio used an iPhone and Dan Lund directed Zoom from California. “Quarantine Dream” takes its inspiration from Nina and Dan’s shared love for classic Disney films like Mary Poppins, which seamlessly combine live action and animation to create a timeless, charming escape.
If you’re looking for something on your list for the makeup lover, Trixie Mattel has something for you. This week she released a new blush palette for Mod About You (and also replenished the Summer of Love palette).
I’m kind of a “bah, humbug” over Christmas (especially this year) and am not the type of vacation movie, especially juicy rom-coms. That being said, I almost want to watch Netflixs Princess Switch: Switched again after hearing from Trixie and KatyaLet’s take it up in their latest edition of “I Like to Watch”.
Katya and Trixie talk about being sick, calling in sick and taking care of someone who is sick on the latest episode of “UNHhhh”. They also discuss the horror of food poisoning, questionable CBD claims, anti-vaxxers, and more.
Do you like to watch random strangers fall? Would you like Willam? If the answer to both questions is yes, then don’t miss out on the latest Best of Beatdown featuring some of the best flops and falls to catch on camera. We all need a laugh, so I encourage you to take a look (and you can giggle as much as I can.)
Willam and her Race chaser Co-host Alaska have blessed us with a two-part video extravaganza called “wig gets better”. Here you take two costume wigs from Ru’s Party City collection and “Jaymes Mansfields”. It’s busy, but I like the finished product (and I always love seeing these two together.)
Of course, it’s always best to leave these things to the experts Jaymes Mansfield with another of their replicas of iconic looks. This time she takes a blonde hair piece and transforms it into a “Doralee dream” from which Dolly Parton is served 9 to 5.
Jaymes also does magic on a fan-submitted wig (a surprisingly not terrible tip from Wish).
Last week, Alexis Mateo released her new single “Esta Noche”. This week she debuted the video which is muy caliente and shows appearances by Kahanna Montrese and Coco Montrese.
It’s always fun to listen Bob the drag queen and Monét X change on their Sibling Rivalry podcast, but the fun doubles this week when Willam and Alaska join the conversation.
Of course it is a gift when Bob speaks to someone, and they and peppermint are great together. The couple recently streamed live after the election and their joy is contagious.
Still looking to become a YouTube sensation, Bob brings us another amazing makeup tutorial. If you’ve always wanted to recreate Bob’s signature beat, this is the video for you.
Busy Queen! Bob also welcomed a special guest Naomi Smalls on her YouTube channel to redesign her (and prep her skin with a very complete routine).
Yuhua Hamasaki and Cameron Michaels Let’s catch up and rate the looks of the Season 10 queens “where are they now?” Episode of “Bootleg Opinions”. Of course, I love these queens, but I didn’t know how cute they are Dusty Ray Bottoms is from air resistance. I need more of The vixen and Monique Heart in my life.
Heidi N ClosetIn the service of “Heidi Aphrodite”, reality talks about the latest “gap chat”. Between the really moaning dad jokes, Heidi talks about the importance of laughing in life, relives her family BBQ sketch from season 12 and discusses her favorite comedians.
This time she doesn’t feel very attacked. Find out more about the sixth season Laganja Estranja She’s the latest on the hot seat, talking to Joseph Shepherd about “Exposed”. She talks about growing up in Texas, her time at Drag Race and working as a choreographer Alyssa Edwards.
It’s always nice Purple chachki has returned and she is here to show you how to get out of the resistance and take care of her skin.
One of the best things RuPaul has to offer Drag Race UK was that Smock destroyer. The girls group made up of Baga Chipz, Divina de Campo and Blu hydrangea, whose debut single “Break Up Bye Bye” landed at # 3 on iTunes and at # 10 in the Big UK Top 40. The trio also made “Herstory” by becoming the first top 10 hit in the UK charts to be performed by a drag group. The band is back together and has released a new single, “Her Majesty” and an album, FROCK4LIFE, which will be released on December 11th via World of Wonder Records.
Baga Chipz says: “Oh my god, I’m so excited about our new album, Frock4LifeI just can’t believe it. We worked so hard and spent almost a year locking it all down and it FINALLY HAPPENS. It is going to be great. We all love songs and I think especially as we approach the holiday season we all need a little cheer and we want to put a smile on people’s faces. The fans have been so amazing that I think now is the right time for FROCK DESTROY and we will take over the world! We would like to thank you for your support. Big fat Baga kiss. “
Says Blu Hydrangea, “Break Up Bye Bye and Frock Destroyers were like catching lightning in a bottle, showing the world what British Resistance is capable of. We want to build on this iconic moment and take over the music industry as the sloppy drag band that we are! Baga, Davina and I had the golden opportunity to destroy everyone with new music and you better believe this album leaves everyone disappointed and begging for more! “
Commented Divina de Campo, “I’m so excited with the album that it’s a small step to go to dinner with Little Mix, hosted by three drag queens.” There are real bangers with a little tongue in cheek stupidity and great singing. I can’t wait for everyone to hear.
You can check out “Her Majesty” below and pre-order the album HERE.
2020 has delivered its share of intestinal strokes, and one of the worst was the death of co-host “Hey Qween” Lady Red Couture. Some of her best moments have been summed up in this lovely tribute that features a number of your favorite queens, including Honey Davenport, Latrice Royale, The Vixen, Peppermint and more.
That’s all for this week. Hope you had a great Turkey day and stay safe until next week, stay safe and say LOVE!
