An explosion from the past. T.R. Knight returned to Grey’s anatomy For the first time since his exit in 2009 on Thursday December 3rd, the episode of the long-running medical drama.
Meredith Grays (Ellen Pompeo) The fight against the coronavirus continued during the episode on Thursday. The surgeon slept around the clock as her condition worsened. It wasn’t long before she returned to the beach she has dreamed of since she was diagnosed with COVID-19. After reuniting with late husband Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) During the first two episodes of season 17, Meredith found George (Knight) on a lifeguard stand.
After George acknowledged what McDreamy had already told her – the sand (and the sea) are not “real” – he revealed that he was visiting Meredith and her three children from heaven.
“Your children. You have great children. I check in sometimes,” he said.
Knight went Grey’s anatomy After five seasons in 2009. After his character George died during surgery after a bus accident, the actor opened up on his departure, claiming he and his creator were Shonda Rhimes had a “gradual breakdown in communication” over the years.
“My five years of experience showed me that I couldn’t trust an answer [about George]”Said Knight Weekly entertainment back then. “And with respect I will leave it at that. … There are many people who would like to be in my position. But in the end I have to be fulfilled in my work.”
On Thursday’s episode, Meredith told George that he was “devastated” when he died. He corrected her and reminded her that Meredith, Alex (Justin Chambers), Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Izzie (Katherine Heigl) were “crazy” at his funeral, which fans saw during the premiere of the sixth season.
“I was devastated. And then? I was fine,” she replied. “You’ll even continue with Derek at some point. And the kids? Would continue.”
George disagreed. “They would, but I think they might be different,” he said. “My mother didn’t go any further … Not really, not like before. Some grief is heavier than other grief. I just want her to let it go. I want her to know that I am still me, even though she is me can’t touch. she can’t see me, but I’m still me. “
George later asked Meredith if she was still “dancing” like she used to do with Cristina. “That’s what I miss about life,” he admitted.
Back at the Gray Sloan Memorial, Richard Weber (James Pickens Jr.) pondered how to deal with Meredith’s case after Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) recommended submitting them for a clinical study.
“If you stay here, you could break it,” George said to Meredith after introducing herself to Richard on the beach. The former boss made the decision to continue the process after Meredith, who was shaking, said George’s name aloud from her hospital bed.
Knight took to Instagram after Thursday’s episode aired and wrote, “George O’Malley will always claim my heart. Thank you Ellen, Chandra [Wilson], Jim, [showrunner] Krista Vernoff and all the familiar faces to share your beautiful light once again. “
Knight also opened up to the “overwhelming” it was to return to the show.
“It was the ending that I never expected and that in many ways I could not possibly have expected. It’s such an awkward position to be asked, to be honest with all due respect, so I’ll just say in Krista’s hands that I feel safe, I feel energized, “he said.” It’s like when you were talking about this line that seemed like improvisation. I won’t credit that. I give Ellen credit and Krista credit because I’m writing something that can seem like improvisation, that’s what the scriptures say. And that’s just a joy to interpret. “
Grey’s anatomy will be broadcast on ABC on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET.
