A 5-year-old Georgia girl died after being shot in the face in an accidental shootout, according to police, according to local reports.
The officers responded to an emergency call around 3:30 p.m. Friday and found the child injured in their family home in Lithonia, just outside of Atlanta, Fox 5 reported.
She was taken to a nearby hospital where she later died.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting but said it appeared to be an accident.
“Grown men feel sad and want to cry when they see things like this,” said DeKalb County Police Major A.T. Mears told the station. “Be responsible if you have guns. If you have guns and children make sure you are responsible and take care of these things. Look after the kids. “
