Based on Lily Brooks-DaltonNovel “Good morning, midnight“The Midnight Sky” is a two-handed two-handed over isolated survivors in 2049 who try to get in touch before humanity dies. Clooney plays Augustine, a famous scientist whose research inspired the ship ether two years ago in search of a human inhabitable planet in the solar system. When the movie opens, ether has almost completed its return voyage and has good news: K-23, a previously undiscovered moon of Jupiter, can support human life. But as soon as the ship is back in communication range, Augustine has bad news for her: there will be no one left on Earth who could colonize K-23.

Although the end of the world is near, he doesn’t really panic until he discovers that a young girl has stayed on the ward after the evacuation. Iris (Caoilinn Springall) doesn’t speak and doesn’t seem like much work either, but Augustine Stills can’t manage their presence. “I’m the wrong person,” he says to the child with big eyes and oracular looks in a tone that is less parental than pleading.

Although the scenes with Augustine and Iris are a one-sided conversation, occasionally spliced by slightly incidental flashbacks that show a young Augustine (Ethan Peck) Throw away his one chance at true love, they carry more weight than the other half of the film. The etherThe crew consists of bland hero characters like the commander (David Oyelowo) and his pregnant partner Sully (Felicity Jones). Only Mitchell’s possible wildcard (Kyle Chandler(barely hiding the tension of an iceberg beneath the surface) to break up the monotony. Although the crew drove to and from K-23 for two years, their discovery doesn’t seem to have made a big impression. Rather than addressing the interpersonal dynamics of the crew, the script replaces critical moments of togetherness (even in 2049, mankind still won’t be free from the Sweet Caroline curse) and drama in the form of flawed meteors breaking down in her wonderfully designed but very sensitive ship. Echo “Heaviness“Sometimes, if ironically without the gripping and balancing joke that Clooney brought to this story as an actor:” The Midnight Sky ” handles his spaceship in crisis with a crisp efficiency that delivers less clout than it should.

But its inability to make a strong connection between the separate stories and a tone that sometimes transitions from poetic silence to sentimentality prevent the film from taking a long and honest look at the devastation that its reserved mood only suggests.
