Given that Godzilla versus Kong goes straight to HBO Max, we thought it might look back Kong: Skull Island. In particular, what made the film as opposed to such a joy Godzilla and Godzilla: King of the Monsters. Indeed part of the genius of Skull Island is the way it positions its monster as a metaphor similar to that of the Japanese Godzillabut from a distinctly American perspective.
