KANSAS CITY, MO. Reaching number 1 in the AFC has not resulted in a Super Bowl success for the Kansas City Chiefs in the past, but they hope they are well on their way to a championship this time around.
The Chiefs defeated the Atlanta Falcons 17-14 at Arrowhead Stadium against the Atlanta Falcons 17-14. The 14-1 Chiefs, who have won 10 straight games, receive the AFC’s only first-round playoff reunion and play her division round game at Arrowhead.
“It’s one of your goals when you go into the season,” said quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who threw Demarcus Robinson a 25-yard touchdown pass at 1:55 to give the Chiefs a surprisingly difficult win over the 4-11 Victory lead Falcons. “If you look at the history of this bye week, it’s usually a good thing for teams trying to win a championship.”
In victory, Travis Kelce was the first close finish to have two seasons with 100 catches. Kelce caught seven passports and gave him 105.
Kelce also set the single-season yardage record for a close finish. He was 98 yards and gave him 1,467. George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers held the previous record of 1,377 yards, which was set in 2018.
“To have a week of preparation is a week where you really sit down and put your body back in order so late in the season is so important and it’s imperative if you want to push the playoffs forward,” said Kelce Work your dick off for the whole season. I’m just proud to be part of this team and to be able to do it again this year. ”
The AFC number 1 has not represented the Super Bowl conference for the past two seasons.
The Chiefs were the AFC’s top playoff seed three times but failed to reach the Super Bowl in any of those seasons. In 1995 and 1997 they lost their home playoff game in the division round. In 2018 they lost the AFC Championship Game at home in extra time to the New England Patriots.
The Chiefs were number 2 en route to a Super Bowl LIV championship last year.
The Chiefs end the regular season next Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers at Arrowhead. With the game going to be meaningless in terms of rating and playoff seed, they are likely to rest some of their top players, including Mahomes and Kelce.
