After four seasons of uncomfortable conversations, bomb-mirror raps and ear-gas soundtracks, we say goodbye Unsure. On January 13, HBO Programming executive vice president Amy Gravitt announced that the upcoming fifth season of the Emmy-nominated comedy would be her last.
“Issa has made uncertainty an icon of comedy,” Gravitt said in a statement on Wednesday. “The show is as succinct as it is from the heart and has had a strong audience response due to the deeply personal work that Issa, Prentice, Melina, the cast and writers put into it. This talented team has devised a brilliant finale for the season For Unsure and we look forward to telling many more stories with this unique group of employees. “
The series was renewed for a fifth season back in May 2020 when the fourth season was just beginning. Season five production began on September 17, when Rae posted a post on Instagram to announce that she was seated for the first table, read via video chat. The fifth season should appear later this year.
“Prentice and I are so grateful that HBO believed our show from the start and believed in us to see our vision through to the end,” said Rae regarding cancellation. “We always wanted to tell this story in five seasons, but we wouldn’t have made it this far without the tremendous support from our audience. I feel immensely blessed to at least finish our characters’ stories on screen.”
