After a series of pauses at the start of Sunday’s AFC championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the Buffalo Bills got massive when Kansas City’s Mecole Hardman fumbled a boat.
Kansas City forced the Bills to stab on their second drive of the game, but Hardman’s mistake came deep within Kansas City’s side of the field. Buffalo shooter Taiwan Jones fixed the fumble on the Chiefs 3-yard line and set up a touchdown pass from Josh Allen to Dawson Knox on the first game of the following drive. Rookie kicker Tyler Bass missed the extra point, but the Bills took a 9-0 lead over the reigning Super Bowl champion in the middle of the first quarter.
It was the largest of three early breaks Buffalo took early in the first quarter.
Allen nearly threw an interception on the Bills’ opening run, but broad receiver Cole Beasley tossed the ball from the chief’s hands to Juan Thornhill as it went down.
