Official trailer for Mortal Kombat
- An ancient tournament is reborn when Warner Bros. Pictures releases the official trailer for their upcoming reboot Mortal Kombat. Watch the trailer below.
A stranded mixed martial arts fighter named Cole Young knows nothing of his hidden ancestry or why he’s being hunted by Sub-Zero of the Lin Kuei clan of assassins. Concerned for the safety of his family, he visits a clique of fighters who have been selected to defend Earthrealm in a fight against the forces of the outside world.
Wow just wow. This film (at least from the trailer alone) looks very promising. For me, the Mortal Kombat games are classics, especially the original games, including the arcade version. The two live action films (i.e. 1995) Mortal Kombat and 1997 Mortal Kombat: Annihilation) are a kind of mixed bag. The former is the better of the two and is gaining cult status among fans, while the latter has been critically rated as terrible. Given that reception, it’s easy to see why the studios weren’t exactly eager to restart the Mortal Kombat franchise. Flash forward to now …. and 2021’s Mortal Kombat is here and it looks pretty good. The picture is definitely amazing and the acting talent of playing these legendary video game characters looks solid too. The trailer alone looks amazing and definitely shows a lot of great imagery for this new iteration as well as some fan service moments. How it ultimately comes out in the film and how it will be received by critics and moviegoers remains unclear. Still, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this film when it comes out.
Mortal Kombat hits theaters April 16 and is streaming simultaneously on HBO Maxth2021
