And that’s a wrap! Even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Hollywood made the Golden Globes 2021 a reality – and Us weekly can’t overcome some of the night’s greatest moments.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler The ceremony began with a killer monologue, although the event was conducted from different coasts. When they opened the show, they took a moment to not only dissipate the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – which picks the nominees – about not having black members, but also to slam nominees Emily in Paris.
“Emily in Paris is nominated for the best TV series, musical comedy, ”began the 50-year-old Fey. “I can’t wait to find out what it is. French exit is what I did after watching the first episode of Emily in Paris. ”
Immediately after the shock, the camera panned awkwardly to the star and producer Lily Collinswho smiled and laughed. The Netflix series, which received two Golden Globe nominations, recently came under fire for reportedly flying the HFPA to the Paris set of the show and granting them a stay at the five-star Peninsula Paris hotel. A studio source said Us weekly that they did not fly to Europe as HFPA members.
Later in the evening, Jane Fonda gave her acceptance speech for the Cecil B. deMille Award. She shared a strong message about the importance of diversity and inclusion in the entertainment industry.
“Stories … they can really change people, but there is one story that we were afraid to see and hear about ourselves and this industry. The story of what voices we respect and raise and which we turn off. One Story about who is offered a seat at the table and who is kept out of the room where decisions are made, “said the actress and activist (83).” Let us all, including all groups, decide who to hire and who what is done and who wins prizes … we try to expand this tent so that everyone gets up and every story has the chance to be seen and heard. “
Chadwick Boseman’s wife, Taylor Simone Ledward, gave an emotional, tearful speech and accepted his posthumous award for Best Actor Performance in a Motion Picture – Drama in Ma Rainey’s black bottom.
“He would say something beautiful, something inspiring,” said Ledward, 30 years old. “Something that would amplify that little voice that tells you you can, that tells you to move on, that calls you back to what to do right now in the story.”
Before she finished her speech, she said directly to her late husband, “Hun, you’re getting on.” Boseman died in August 2020 at the age of 43 after quietly battling colon cancer.
The 78th annual ceremony took place at unprecedented times due to the global COVID-19 crisis – a factor that led to the show airing almost two months later. The prestigious affair was streamed live from New York’s Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center and the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
Fey and Poehler, 49, returned to host the Golden Globes for the fourth time, having previously done so in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Kenan Thompson, Margot Robbie, Awkwafina and Tiffany Haddish were among the A-list talents enlisted to give awards from various coasts.
The 2021 nominees performed virtually in various locations around the world during the event. Shows including The flight attendant and Emily in Paris as well as movies like Promising young woman and One night in Miami were recognized with nominations.
