Elliot Page finally feels like the real me.
The Canadian actor is on the new cover of Time magazine and reported in an interview that he came out as a transgender last year.
When asked how he has felt since the announcement, Page said, “That feeling of real excitement and deep gratitude for having made it to this point in my life is mixed with a lot of fear and anxiety.”

The 34-year-old also spoke about how he expected the reaction when he got out.
“What I was expecting was a lot of support and love and a lot of hate and transphobia,” he said. “That’s exactly what happened.”
At the earliest moments Page knew he was a boy, he was nine years old when his mother allowed him to cut his hair short.
“I felt like a boy. I wanted to be a boy. I would ask my mother if I could be one day, ”he recalled. “I just never recognized myself. I couldn’t even look at a photo of myself for a long time. “
In 2014, before Page came out as a trans, Page came out as gay.
“The difference in how I felt before I came out gay was huge,” the actor recalled. “But has the discomfort in my body ever gone? No no no no.”
During the pandemic, the quarantine downtime allowed Page to reflect in a way that allowed him to fully accept who he is.
“I’ve had a lot of time to myself to really focus on things that I think I’ve subconsciously avoided in so many ways,” he explained. “I was finally able to be transgender and fully let myself be who I am.”

Now that he’s away, Page sees the importance of being a trans person in the spotlight.
“Extremely influential people spread these myths and harmful rhetoric – every day you see our existence being debated. Transgender people are so very real,” he said.
“My privilege has allowed me to have resources to get through and be where I am today and of course I want to use that privilege and platform to help in the way I can,” added Page.

“We know who we are,” he said. “People stick to these firm ideas [about gender] because it makes people feel safe. But if we could just celebrate the wonderful complexity of people, the world would be such a better place. “
Page also revealed that he has had a “top” operation – the removal of his breast tissue – since he appeared and that it “changed” his life.
In terms of his career, Page looks forward to the new opportunities for different types of roles that might arise in light of his transition.
“I’m really excited to act now that I am fully who I am, in this body,” he said. “Regardless of the challenges and difficult moments, it doesn’t matter how I feel now.”
Lately, Page has been heavily involved in environmental issues. His documentary There’s something in the water, which was published on Netflix last March, sheds light on the stories of indigenous and black Nova Scotians disproportionately affected by the decision to land hazardous waste near their homes.
Page would end up pouring about $ 350,000 of his own money into the project to get it off the ground and complete as soon as possible.
“What has happened in these communities for decades and decades has caused extraordinary trauma and illness and loss and pain, and the change must take place now,” Page told News Gob at the time.
Page is expected to shoot the third season of the Netflix superhero series The Umbrella Academy Early in 2021, and he is slated to express numerous characters in several upcoming film projects.
Page and his wife Emma Portner recently filed for divorce after nearly three years together.
