I’ve published a new column at The dropout this evening. With the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League This week seemed like a fair opportunity to take a look at the original theatrical version of Justice Leaguewhich remains one of the worst blockbusters in the last decade.
What is it that makes a movie? justice League such an insidious film is not just what it is, though terrible on its own. It’s what the movie is about. It’s a very deliberate and very deliberate obliteration of a certain vision of an expensive creative project in the hopes of serving up rewarmed nostalgic leftovers that fans might cling to. It’s pure, empty, empty content – a pale imitation of what other companies do better without a single unique perspective.
