Disney + has confirmed that it is working with David Beckham on an original series titled Save our team.
The project was first rumored last month, and the streamer has now announced that the soccer icon will host the show, which will be produced by Warner Bros-backed Twenty Twenty and Beckham’s Studio 99.
Beckham returns to the show as a heartwarming series, returning to the East London football fields where he played as a kid. He will look after a young grassroots team that is struggling to survive in the league.
The former Manchester United and LA Galaxy star announced the day Beckham is scheduled to attend a keynote session on MipTV. The “opportunity to mentor back these communities is incredible”.
Sean Doyle, Disney + Director of Unscripted in EMEA, added, “The series will be exciting, dramatic, uplifting and full of heart and courage – everything David had on his own play days.” Doyle will also serve as executive producer Save our team.
The Original, an early project from the UK, is one of 50 productions Disney + plans to launch in Europe by 2024. The streamer revealed its first European plan in February. Flashy projects have been announced, including the star mafia drama The good motherswhat sets mob women in the frame.
