You don’t have to believe in the coronavirus to get it, as musician Ted Nugent confirmed with the revelation that he tested positive for COVID-19.
“I have officially tested positive for COVID-19,” Nugent announced on Facebook Live on Monday. “I have the Chinese …” he added in a nearly nine-minute video that was riddled with profanity, anti-Asian racism, conspiracy theories and false claims about the virus.
Nugent announced that he had flu-like symptoms for 10 days and was finally tested on Monday.
“I thought I was going to die,” he said. He added that he could barely crawl out of bed and that the agony of the disease eventually led him to get tested for it.
Nugent then launched a rant against testing at all.
“What would be the good thing to know about it?” asked the musician.
“It’s not good to know,” he added, before advancing several conspiracy theories and embracing the values of “truth” and “logic”.
The reveal came less than a month after Nugent broke locks on social media.
“My common sense meter would ask the answers to the following questions: Why weren’t we shut down for COVID 1-18?” he said on Facebook Live earlier this month.
The number refers to 2019 – the year the disease was discovered. (There was no COVID 1-18.)
Nugent spent several months jokingly denouncing the pandemic, often while expressing support for ex-US. President Donald Trump. He suggested that the pandemic was “not real” and a “fraud”. He also claimed that people who wore masks were “sheep”.
Despite testing positive, Nugent continued to doubt the pandemic on Monday as he advanced pro-Trump conspiracy theories.
His tirade was occasionally interrupted by a dry cough.
