AnnaLynne McCord said her acting roles were “divisions” after the 33-year-old beauty publicly revealed her diagnosis of dissociative identity disorder. AnnaLynne’s story sounds like a movie plot, but that’s real life, played out in front of the public. When AnnaLynne appeared as Naomi Clark on the TV series 90210 She suffered real life trauma portraying a rape victim. Filming these scenes not only re-opened her fear of a rape she suffered in 2018, but she also began to regain lost memories of past childhood and sexual abuse. Through therapy, AnnaLynne not only uncovered the memories of sexual abuse she experienced between the ages of five and eleven, but her doctor diagnosed her with dissociative identity disorder.
Formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder or Split Personality, Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) is a Mental health Condition that occurs in response to severe trauma or neglect. When a child is still forming their personality and experiencing an overwhelming trauma, the mind breaks off or falls apart into another part that serves to protect the individual from dealing with the trauma experienced. Dr. Amen showed a brain scan of AnnaLynne’s brain and concluded that she may also have suffered from a head injury. Some fans were quick to notice that AnnaLynne’s voice turned young, playful, and childlike when asked about head injuries she had suffered in the past. Although she did not address physical abuse as a child, she recalled having had multiple car accidents as an adult.
AnnaLynne said there is no shame in having dissociative identity disorder and she hopes by sharing her story she will help others find their own healing journey.
