Look what God gave him! Thomas RhettThe family has stolen hearts around the world since he hit the country music scene in 2012.
Born in March 1990 as Thomas Rhett Akins Jr., the Grammy nominee is the son of another country singer-songwriter Rhett Akins and Paige Lankford (nee Braswell). Thomas and his sister, Kasey Akinsgrew up in Nashville, where he later attended his mother’s alma mater, Lipscomb University, to study communication. He eventually dropped out of college at the age of 20 to pursue a career as a songwriter.
After writing tracks for artists including Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line, Thomas signed his own recording deal, imprinted with The Valory Music Co. from Big Machine Records. In 2012 he released his debut single “Something to Do With My Hands”, followed by his first hit “Beer With Jesus”.
In the same year Thomas married Lauren AkinsLauren, who graduated from the University of Tennessee with a degree in nursing in 2011, starred in the music video for Thomas’ top-chart single to 2015, “Die a Happy Man.”
The couple became parents in 2017 when they welcomed two daughters in a row. They adopted Willa Gray from Uganda in May and found out in the middle of the trial that Lauren was pregnant. She gave birth to Ada James in August. Their arrival inspired another hit from Thomas, “Life Changes”.
“I remember the day I said to my father and mother, ‘You are going to have a grandchild’ / ‘Yes, from Uganda, that’s right, we adopt, and she is the cutest little girl you have ever seen has. ‘”He sang in the 2017 song from the album of the same name. “While I was taking care of being a dad / A big wrench was thrown into the plans we had / Now Lauren shows there’s one on the way / Yeah, that’s two under 2 / Hey what can I say?”
Thomas and Lauren welcomed a third daughter, Lennon Love, in February 2020.
The two announced in May 2021 that they were expecting their fourth child, another little girl.
