Saturday night live (SNL) returned this weekend after a month-long hiatus, bringing in new but controversial character Elon Musk to host the show.
After a hearty Mother’s Day performance from Miley Cyrus and multiple cast members, Musk’s opening monologue began by making fun of his own way of speaking.
“It’s an honor to do Saturday Night Live, that’s what I mean. Sometimes after I’ve said something I have to say, ‘I mean that’ so people really know I mean it – that’s because I don’t always have big intonational variations in speaking, which I’ve been told is great on comedy, ”Musk said.
The founder of SpaceX and “Technoking of Tesla,” Musk’s appearance, has received critical acclaim from many on and off the show for his comments on social media and his immense wealth.
Currently, Musk is the second richest person in the world after Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, and had recently reached that position – and has benefited significantly from the COVID-19 pandemic.
While not delving into his wealth, Musk made some of the criticisms directed against him in his opening skit.
“I believe in a future for renewable energies. I believe that humanity must become a multi-planetary space civilization. Now I think if I just posted this on Twitter I would be fine, ”Musk said. “But I’m also writing things like ’69 days after April 20th, haha. ‘”
“I don’t know, I thought it was funny, that’s why I wrote” haha ”at the end.”
Musk acknowledged that he sometimes posts “weird things” and said that this is how his brain works.
“For anyone I’ve offended, I just want to say that I’ve reinvented electric cars and sent people to Mars on a rocket ship – did you think I’d be a cool normal guy too?” said Musk, who shrugged his arms.
Musk also talked about some of the “stupidest things” he has ever done, like smoking weed on Joe Rogan’s podcast. Now he says he only ever hears of himself as the person who smokes weed on podcasts.
“It’s like reducing O.J. Simpson to the ‘killer’ that was once upon a time!”
After a joke that beat up the electric car’s competitor, the Toyota Prius, Musk also said it was a great way to learn more about the host – like his son’s name, X Æ A-12.
“It is pronounced” cat walks over keyboard “.
They both brought his mother Maye on the show to talk about themselves as a kid and made one final joke that many speculated was a staple for Musk’s sketch.
“I’m looking forward to the Mother’s Day present,” Maye exclaimed. “I just hope it’s not Dogecoin.”
“It’s …” Musk replied dizzy.
