Jeff Blackburn, one of Amazon’s senior and longest-serving executives, is returning after a brief hiatus to serve as senior vice president of a new division of Global Media & Entertainment.
The role makes Blackburn Amazon the most powerful person in Hollywood, overseeing Prime Video and Amazon Studios, as well as Amazon’s music, podcast and gaming businesses.
“Jblack’s interest in returning to Amazon provided us with an excellent opportunity to bring our entertainment businesses into a single organization under a leader who knows them well,” said Andy Jassy, CEO of Amazon Web Services and future CEO of Amazon. said in a memo.
Amazon has aggressively increased its media and entertainment investments. In 2020, $ 11 billion was spent on television series, films, and music, up 41 percent from 2019.

The company has also increased its investment in Prime Video, which now has more than 175 million members worldwide and recently received exclusive rights to NFL Thursday Night Football starting in 2022.
Blackburn, who joined Amazon in 1998 and was instrumental in growing his media business, took a year-long sabbatical in 2020 before leaving the company in February of that year. He will return to the company on June 7th reporting to CEO Jeff Bezos until Bezos hands over the reins to Jassy this summer.
