The reigning US Open champion and two-time French Open finalist Dominic Thiem has lost a lead of two sets and falls on Roland Garros.
The fourth seeded Austrian was beaten in the first round by 68th placed Pablo Andujar with 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.
It was the first time in eight appearances at the Clay Court Grand Slam that Thiem lost his opening game.
Andujar also defeated Roger Federer in Geneva earlier this month. It is the first time in his career that Andujar is returning to win after losing the first two sets.
Thiem fell back to 11-9 in five-set matches.
Thiem lost the finals in 2018 and 2019 against Rafael Nadal.
