When it is time for you to speak, make it easy for yourself to be heard and easy to hear. Avoid using useless filler words that make you sound insecure, unprepared or even uneducated: “You know … um … huh … ah … okay, okay …” At least when you have to say it, tell it to yourself silently, when speak loudly.
Past research has shown that people believe what they see about what you say. A recent study reported in the Wall Street Journal showed that people believe what you say based on How They say it in a two-to-one ratio.
