EXCLUSIVE: Unpaid crew members The mediator will be paid in full by Tuesday, promised Andre Jetmir, the show’s creator. He said 11 crew members have not yet been paid in full due to cost overruns related to filming during the pandemic. “Covid just completely destroyed the budget,” he said. “It was absolutely brutal.”
Twenty episodes of the show, which shows Ice-T in a court-like setting where real-life disputes among feuding guests are resolved, were broadcast on Fox-owned channels across the country. The show’s first season ended in February.
“I wasn’t paid either, so you can put me on the list too,” said Jetmir, noting that he hopes that now that budget problems are resolved with a new line of funding, the crew and the show will go for a second Return season. “We closed the funding two days ago to pay everyone,” he said, adding that the show was a “black independent production” – not a Fox show. “Fox didn’t pay a dime for the show. I’m not blaming Fox. I own the copyright. We hope to do more episodes. ”He also noted that“ we have an offer ”to do more shows.
In a letter sent to “everyone involved” on Friday, Jetmir wrote: “As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, production costs have been extremely unstable. For us at The Mediator, the health of our great cast and crew has been and is of the utmost importance. Because of this, we went over budget. It wasn’t our intention to make someone feel less than outstanding by delaying payments while we, as independent producers, raise more capital. While this isn’t a studio show, we take our obligations to our crew seriously – as if they were our own family because they are. As a rights holder and executive producer, the money stops with me. I apologize for those who feel less than important. And while the journey was not easy, we cannot thank you enough for your patience and understanding. You deserve better and we will do better if we are lucky enough to have you back. “
“To be a ‘Covid Show’ was a new experience for us,” he said in his letter. “And while we may have been too ambitious, everyone on the crew will get full pay for their work if they haven’t already. At the time of this writing, the pay slip was still being distributed. I was told that one lap ran out last night and the last lap ran out at midnight on Tuesday, June 15th. If anyone has any questions, comments or just shares your feelings, feel free to give me a call. We hope everyone continues to be safe and healthy. “
“I love the crew,” he said. “The people were wonderful.”
