The first pet has unfortunately passed away and the POTUS and FLOTUS have paid tribute to their beloved dog! Joe Biden and Jill Biden, in mourning their oldest pup, went on social media to remember and honor Champ after he died at the honorable age of 13.
In an official statement, the Bidens wrote: “Our hearts are very heavy today when we tell you that our beloved German Shepherd, Champ, passed away peacefully at home. He has been our constant, our beloved companion for the past 13 years and has been adored by the whole family. ‘

The post also states: “Even as Champ’s strength waned in his final months when we all walked into a room, he immediately pulled himself up and wagged his tail to stroke us after scratching our ears or rubbing our belly. Wherever we were, he wanted to be too, and everything was immediately better when he was next to us. He loved nothing more than to cuddle at our feet in front of the fire at the end of the day or to accompany us at meetings as a comforting presence or simply to sunbathe in the garden of the White House.
As you may know, Champ entered her life back in 2008, right after Biden was elected vice president.

Apparently he made a promise to Jill at the time that he would get her a puppy if Barack Obama wins the election.
In fact, that is exactly what happened, and Joe Biden kept his promise to purchase Champ from a breeder in Pennsylvania when he was only 3 months old.
Obama made the same promise to his and Michelle’s daughters.
At this time the former POTUS got his first dog, Bo, who unfortunately also died in May of this year at the age of 12.
