PHOENIX – LA Clippers all-star Kawhi Leonard has been disqualified from Sunday’s first game against the Phoenix Suns with a sprained right knee and his status for the remainder of the Western Conference finals remains uncertain.
Leonard did not travel to Phoenix with the team on Saturday. Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said he wasn’t sure about Leonard’s status for Game 2 yet and needed to prepare as if Leonard wasn’t available from game to game until the star returns.
“I’m not sure,” said Lue when asked if Leonard could join the team at some point on this trip. “I know [he is out for] Game 1 definitely. At the moment he is back home for treatment. We’re not sure about game 2 yet. “
Leonard has missed the last two games since injuring his knee in the fourth quarter of Game 4 against the Utah Jazz. Leonard was unable to finish the last four minutes of that game.
Terance Mann started instead of Leonard and scored 39 points in Game 6 to knock out Utah.
“Until he comes back we can’t hypothesize whether he’ll come back, which game,” said Lue. “We have to prepare like he’s not playing.
