While we look forward to the gossip Girl HBO Max restarted, we have plenty of time to think about the original gossip Girl – no, not the 2000s show with Leighton Meester and Blake Lively, the book series written by Cecily Von Ziegesar. The first series was based on this series of YA books, although it has some notable differences (like, um, Blair has a brother? What?). One main question you might have: Who was Gossip Girl in the books? Think of me as the one who devoured this series of books in the wee hours of the morning as your resident GG expert. Read on for all 4-1-1 (note: spoiler warnings ahead).
So, unless you’ve lived under a rock or just subconsciously banned from your mind, everyone knows Dan Humphrey is behind the naughty online blogger Gossip Girl on the TV series (I’ll be honest still wavering from it, though now that Penn Badgley Joe is youit all makes a little bit more sense).
Von Ziegesar’s book series is similar to TV shows in many ways – they both take place on the Upper East Side in New York City, where Serena, Blair, Chuck, Nate, Jenny, Dan and others go to lavish parties and try their hand at parties and drugs and have more hot connections than any teenager should be allowed to. Oh, and the drama! It is just as ubiquitous through the pages of the books as I am happy to report. But the biggest difference? Gossip Girl is never really revealed! Wait what Yes, it is true. All 11 books in the series, by gossip Girl to do not forget me, plus the bonus book on vacation and the Psychopathic killer Edition of book one (LOL!), The true identity of the mysterious Gossip Girl is never revealed. Maybe that’s because all the characters took turns playing them? You will never know . .
The good news is that Kristen Bell is returning as the voice of Gossip Girl, so no matter who is behind the nickname this time around, everything is fine. Time will only tell. You know you love it, XOXO!
