BOSTON (CBS) – After 15 days of raindrops recorded in Boston in early July, we finally had a dry day on Thursday … but that didn’t last long … on Friday showers and storms developed and now we have more volatile weather on tap this one Weekend. Showers and thunderstorms are expected again between today and Sunday. A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH was issued for the west of MA and CT through 11:00 PM Saturday.
Severe thunderstorms can result in harmful straight-line gusts of wind, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning strikes. Heavy rains associated with these storms can lead to local flooding. There is the potential of 1 to 2 inches of rain from these storms, with locally higher amounts. Since the ground is already soaked from recent rain, heavy rainfall can cause small streams and rivers to rise rapidly. Low-lying and urban areas are also more likely to be flooded when a storm blows through. A FLASH FLOOD WATCH is in effect through Sunday morning for central and western MA and northern CT.
Downpours and storms will persist overnight with areas of fog. Lows will be in the 1960s. On Sunday there will be more showers and thunderstorms again. Highs will be in the 1970s.
This choppy pattern continues for most of the next week, with at least a chance of showers or thunderstorms by mid-week.
