I published a new one As part of Piece at The dropout this evening. With Loki With the first season wrapping up this week, it seemed like a good time to take a look back at the show. In particular, how the season finale revealed the core themes and characters of the show.
Loki is a story about many things, but first and foremost it is about power. It is about whether individuals have the power to determine the path of their own lives. It’s about who has the power to determine what stories are told and what to do with that power. It is also about how power intrinsically acts in its own interest. There’s a lot of really interesting and biting stuff in there Lokiwhich makes it a little frustrating when the finale makes a conscious decision to deprive its characters of their agency, to reveal that this story does not belong to them, and to argue that power needs to be centralized. In the end, Loki betray yourself.
