Canelo Alvarez is nearing his goal of racking up all four titles for £ 168.
Boxing’s biggest star Alvarez and Caleb Plant close a deal for a September 18 bout in Las Vegas – a PBC on Fox pay-per-view – that will crown an undisputed super middleweight champion, multiple sources tell ESPN. Alvarez’s last three fights were sponsored by Eddie Hearns Matchroom Sport. The Mexican star arrives after a one-stop win over Billy Joe Saunders in which he fractured the English fighter’s orbital bone.
Alvarez is ESPN’s # 1 pound-for-pound boxer (and his # 1 at 168 pounds). Plant (21-0, 12 KOs), who won his title against Jose Uzcategui in January 2019, is ESPN’s No. 3 super middleweight. The undefeated 29-year-old lives and trains in Las Vegas. He scored a unanimous win over Caleb Truax in January, his third title defense.
Alvarez, 31, has not fought on PPV since the aforementioned rematch with GGG in September 2018.
