Just when you finally figured out how to fit all of the things you need for a day into one of those tiny mini-bags, the fashion universe had to go out and create a bag that is basically the exact opposite. (But don’t worry – your beloved mini-bag is still cool.) In recent seasons there have been signs on the catwalks of Jacquemus, Proenza Schouler, Loewe and others that oversized bags in the form of clutches are gaining in importance again, Totes and top-handle shoulder bags. In fact, we’re finally seeing signs of it on Instagram and on the streets. Many trade fair visitors to the last Paris Couture Fashion Week fully embraced the trend towards oversized bags, with Bottega Veneta, Loewe and Maison Margiela (their buffer bag was everywhere) among the most popular.
The good news is that this trend fits into your laptop, water bottle, phone charger, and in some cases even an extra pair of shoes. The bad news is that issues arise like where to put it down while eating in a restaurant (other than the bottom, huh) or how to pull it off when you’re petite.
Now I love a new bag trend as much as I love the next fashion girl, but I’ll say that at 5’4 “I have trouble carrying a bag almost half the size of me. I’ve seen photos of myself from the past with huge pockets on the shoulder or arm, and it’s definitely not my best look. Maybe heels would help? I’m determined to find an oversized bag that will fit my frame after seeing how many cool ones pop up among those Newcomers to the retailers and how chic runway show goers looked with them, keep scrolling to find evidence and the best oversized bag shopping the market has to offer right now.
